S.A.L. PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION

Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the Great Wars, associate ourselves together as "Sons of The American Legion" for the following purposes:

To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the associations of our members and our forefathers in the Great Wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.

DETACHMENT OF COLORADO CELEBRATING OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY!!!!

Throughout this year, the Sons of The American Legion are celebrating our history. In 1932, The American Legion created the Sons of The American Legion. The first Squadron charter was issued to Indianapolis number 133 in 1933. Denver Squadron 1 was chartered on February 28, 1934. In 1972, the National Sons of The American Legion was reorganized into the current national and state structures. In 1967, The American Legion Department of Colorado authorized the Detachment of Colorado. The first meeting of the Sons of The American Legion Detachment of Colorado elected Terry Kelley Commander on January 21, 1968. The Sons Nationally and in Colorado will celebrate our history throughout the year. The Detachment has 75th Anniversary Pins available for a $5 donation to The American Legion National Emergency Fund. The Department Public Relations Committee is collecting ideas for our celebration. Send your activities and ideas to Jim Gelwicks, PR Chairman, jgelwicks@western.edu.
